National Lottery Authority partners Asante Kotoko in a ¢1m deal

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has signed multi-year partnership/sponsorship agreement with Kumasi Asante Kotoko of Ghana for the 2021/2022 Ghana football season.
On Monday, November 22, 2021, the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi officially announced the one-year sponsorship deal worth $1 million.
The partnership agreement is expected to last the entire 2021/22 Ghana football season, but it is subject to renewal.
The NLA will announce similar package with Accra Hearts of Oak in the coming days.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Samuel Awuku, Director General of the National Lottery Authority, revealed that a number of Ghana Premier League clubs approached them with their proposals, but the NLA was convinced that Kotoko and Hearts of Oak were willing to go through the process with them.

“This is the first time the NLA has gone into brand visibility in a major sponsorship deal involving clubs in the football brackets.” So Kotoko approached us with their proposal, Hearts of Oak approached us with their proposal, and RTU also approached us with their proposal.

Along the way, RTU became concerned that we were dragging our feet, and they had already begun printing their jerseys for the 2021/2022 season. Kotoko and Hearts were extremely patient and willing to accompany us through the process.”

“We needed to align on the figures, we needed to know what we were getting into, and we also wanted to be sure that this was a deal worth going into,” he continued.

We finished everything last Friday, and today the Board gave us permission to come and sign Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s partnership deal, and by agreement, we will sign Hearts for a week starting today,” he said.

During the event, the NLA unveiled the ‘Atena Game,’ a new online lottery for Ghana Premier League fans.

This game allows football fans to choose five jersey numbers each week, with the lucky winners receiving items such as jerseys, matchday tickets, fuel coupons, cars, electric appliances, and cash prizes after the draw.

Asante Kotoko’s Communications and Brands Manager, David Obeng Nyarko, explained why fans of the club must support the NLA initiative in order for the state agency to benefit from the collaboration.

“That’s how we have to push our brands, and how we have to push the other brands that are collaborating with Asante Kotoko.” As a result, better explanations and details will be available very soon.

“All we want to say is that we encourage our fans to purchase the ‘Atena Product,’ in which we will use the jersey numbers of our players to predict the lucky numbers, and the lucky fans will win so many wonderful prizes.” So it’s a package that we must fully support,” Obeng Nyarko emphasized.

Former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah, Daniel Asare, George Kennedy, former club CEO Samuel Opoku Nti, Abdul Razak, and Papa Arko were among those who attended the event.

After agreements with Hisense, Ticketlake, Betika, CEEK, Instat, VEO, Adonko Next Level, StarLife, Star Assurance, CedarVite, Errea, and Goil, NLA becomes Kotoko’s 13th partner.
